Ancient Landmark #5

by Ed Halpaus
Grand Lodge Education Officer
Grand Lodge of A. F. & A. M. of Minnesota

Dear Masonic Student,

Worshipful Brother Austin Harris, Past Grand Chaplain of the Grand Lodge of Minnesota, in a paper he wrote for his Lodge, (Ancient Landmark #5,) some time ago had something in it that is important for Masons to think about. I think once you read it you’ll see the value of what he wrote.

“You are the one. When I come to the end of a busy Thursday and remember that this is that Thursday on which I am obliged to leave my usual pursuits and gather with my friends and brothers there are always special faces I really hope to see. Although all my brothers are special some really lift my spirits and inspire me just by their presence and when they are missing my evening at lodge is a little less meaningful.”

“You are the one who can make this all meaningful: More meaningful for that brother who came especially hoping to see you, and for that brother who looks out at you from your mirror.”

I will add; there are Masons in your Lodge who look forward to seeing you there and if you’re not there for a communication they feel a little disappointed. The Masonic experience in your Lodge is missing something if they are missing you.

Let’s all go to Lodge and enjoy the fellowship and the experience of being a Freemason!
