CHAPTER XI

THE WORSHIPFUL MASTER'S HANDBOOK

Grand Lodge, F.A.A.M. of the District of Columbia


RESPONSIBILITY

Audit Committee

PURPOSE

To provide assurance that:

1. All cash received has been recorded promptly and accurately and deposited on a timely basis.

2. Cash disbursements have been made only for authorized Lodge purposes and have been properly recorded.

3. Cash in banks is accurately stated.

4. Cash balances are maintained at adequate but not excessive levels.

5. Lodge securities and investments are properly detailed and subject to appropriate safeguard.

6. Interest and dividends on bank accounts and securities are properly recorded and deposited.

7. The Lodge Secretary’s and Treasurer’s records and books are kept current and that all recordings are properly made and on a timely basis.

TIMING

Unless specified in the Lodge’s by-laws, the Audit Committee should examine the records of the Lodge Secretary and Treasurer as well as the records of the Trustees as of the close of the Masonic year with the report being submitted to the Lodge and the Worshipful Master prior to the installation of the new Worshipful Master.

It should also be the prerogative of the Worshipful Master to call for a Lodge audit at any time for just cause.
